Project Overview
For the City of Eau Claire PFAS Treatment Facility, Fil-Trek supplied the high-flow prefiltration stage protecting the downstream ion exchange trains. The system is installed in the Filter Room on the main PFAS treatment train and is dedicated to municipal drinking water service, providing high-throughput particulate and turbidity reduction ahead of the PFAS removal process.
Project Requirements
The customer required a compact, high-capacity prefiltration solution that could integrate cleanly into the PFAS process header. Key requirements included:
- High-flow, low-dP prefilters installed upstream of the ion exchange vessels.
- Multi-element housings using high-surface-area UF series configured as 5 µm nominal prefilters.
- NSF-listed construction for potable water service.
- Three identical housings with one complete spare cartridge set per housing.
- 150 psi design class to match plant pressure requirements.
- AIS (American Iron and Steel) compliant metallic construction.
- Piping interfaces aligned to process headers and existing valve, meter, and instrument locations.
Fil-Trek Solution
Fil-Trek delivered three UFH Series high-flow housings equipped with UF High Flow Elements, engineered as the primary solids control step ahead of the PFAS treatment trains. The solution balances throughput, footprint, and serviceability while maintaining low clean pressure drop at design flow.
Equipment Supplied
Each of the three vertical, multi-cartridge high-flow housings was configured with UF-style high-flow cartridges used as 5 µm prefilters. Cartridges are NSF-listed for potable water, with one installed set and one full spare set per housing. Nozzle orientation, support details, and centerline elevations were coordinated to the architectural and process drawings to simplify tie-in and installation.
Protection and Compliance
The prefilters are positioned as the primary solids barrier for the PFAS process, designed to reduce particulate loading on the ion exchange vessels, extend PFAS media life, and stabilize downstream dP across valves and meters. All housing materials and fabrication conform to AIS requirements, while cartridge materials and construction meet NSF potable water standards for this municipal PFAS duty.
